A masterful Junior Masters!

East Aurora, NY – The 2012 International Junior Masters was a great success. We started our busy week June 23 with a 60th Anniversary celebration. Several past players and event chairmen attended and shared their recollections as did a few others either by video or letters. The evening culminated with a presentation to Ed Pfister as this year’s Champion of the Game award.

The HamAm took place June 25 with a record 36 teams. John Kozma and Gene Orzech produced another fun event that contributed significantly to the financial success of the tournament.

The 36 hole medal qualifier was held June 26 & 27. The course played hard with strong winds and lightning fast greens both days, yet we had 6 scores under par including two tournament records: Josh Stauffer from Bradford shot a 65 on Wednesday and James Blackwell, the tournament medalist from North Tonawanda, shot 69-70, which tied a record. Matches started Wednesday afternoon and continued through Friday. The final match was a hard fought battle between Blackwell and Joey Savoie, one of four strong players from Quebec. Joey prevailed 1-up on the 18th hole. The semi-finalists were Matt van Niekerk from South Africa, currently residing in Rochester, and David Marin from Colombia.

We concluded proceedings with another Finals Party Friday with many members, sponsors, and players’ families in attendance.

The field was likely the strongest we have had in recent years and all of the boys were good kids and respectful of the course and the members…
