H-AC’s Matt Van Niekerk in lead at state golf tournament

Matt Van Niekerk of Harley-Al­lendale Columbia shot a two-under 70 Sunday to take the lead af­ter the first round of the New York State Boys Golf Champion­ships at Cor­nell Uni­versity’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.

Right behind Van Niekerk is Pittsford Mendon sophomore Gavin Hall, who shot a 71. Section V will try for its fourth straight team ti­tle when the final round be­gins at 7:30 a.m. today.
