Van Niekerk earn medalist honors at AJGA TaylorMade-Adidas Golf Qualifier

Ten boys, two girls advance to play in Rochester Open Championship

VICTOR, N.Y — Jacob Kreuz of Amherst, N.Y., Doug Uhazie of Rochester, N.Y., John YounSung Kim of Toronto, Ontario and Matthew van Niekerk of Rochester, N.Y., recorded a 72 and claimed medalist honors Sunday at the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Qualifier for the Rochester Open Championship. In the Girls Division, Lauren Waller of Canonsburg, Pa., medaled after shooting 80 at Ravenwood Golf Club.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Qualifier for the Rochester Open Championship was an 18-hole stroke play event held at Ravenwood Golf Club. The tournament field featured 84 boys and 15 girls, ages 12-18, from 16 states. The Boys Division played the par-72 course at 6,976 yards, while the Girls Division played the course at 6,123 yards. TaylorMade-adidas Golf Qualifiers give juniors an opportunity to “play their way in” to coinciding AJGA Open tournaments or earn a Tournament Exemption or Performance Star for a future event. The TaylorMade-adidas Golf Qualifier Series offers opportunities for AJGA juniors at approximately 50 AJGA Open events.

Kreuz, Uhazie, Kim and van Niekerk earned Boys Division medalist honors by carding a 72. Kim opted out and chose to accept an AJGA Tournament Exemption in lieu of playing in the championship.

Also qualifying for the Rochester Open Championship were William Hyde of Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich., Teddy Corcoran of Rochester, N.Y., Steve Chung of Dix Hills, N.Y., Raleigh Chapin of Doylestown, Pa., Theron Ornt of HIghland Park, Ill., Kacper Pacewicz of Mississauga, Ontario and Connor Raeman of Canandaigua, N.Y.

In the Girls Division, Waller medaled after shooting 80. Waller opted out and chose to accept an AJGA Tournament Exemption in lieu of playing in the championship.

Also qualifying were Allison Shilling of New Canaan, Conn. and Kensington Wieland of Loudon, Tenn.
